Hot Water Music - No Division [lp] Raging post-hardcore that is bursting with rage and emotion. A fiery classic. [9] [www] hwm.indiepress.com

KNSK [demo] Unhinged doom from this Japanese outfit. Of the two tracks here, Fate is an onrushing headbanger with vocals from a man with matchsticks under his fingernails while Give Us Free recalls Orange Goblin and Alice in Chains. Nice. [7] [www] K.N.S.K website
The Handsome Boy Modeling School - So...How's Your Girl [lp] Prince Paul and The Automator in super suave mode as they present this hip hop allstar epic featuring such heroes as Mike D, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Grand Puba, Sean Lennon, Alec Empire, DJ Shadow, El-P, Money Mark and thousands more. With so many on board it's something of a scatterbomb effort but the hits outweigh the misses making it worth a look particularly for Megaton B-Boy 2000 in which ATR's Alec Empire meets Company Flow's El-P with devastating consequences. [7]
The High & Mighty - Home Field Advantage [lp] Rawkus strikes gold again with this storming collection from H&M. Guest appearances from Eminem, Kool Keith, What? What? and Mos Def make this one of the finest hip hop releases of late. [9]
Sons of Otis - Templeball [lp] Gigantic masterpiece from these Canadian doomsters. Ten planet sized tracks featuring the best guitar sound you've ever heard, vocals that sound like classic Dave Wyndorf and erm, a drum machine. It all adds up to an intergalactic apocalypse of an album. Highly recommended for fans of Sabbath, St.Vitus, Jerusalem era Sleep, and everybody else in fact. [9] [www] Sons of Otis website
Nebula - To the Center [lp] A first release for Sub Pop sees Nebula continuing their move away from their extremely Fu Manchu sounding origins and into a leaner, punkier style. Eddie Glass still finds room for plenty of his usual fret worship and there are tinges of Led Zeppelin here and there. Mudhoney's Mark Arm even shows up to add vocals to a cover of the Stooges' I Need Somebody and altogether it's a new, extra groovy Nebula that presents itself here. [7] [www] Nebula website
Hangnail - Ten Days Before Summer [lp] It's an interesting one this. I was expecting a more straightforward slice of stoner action, but this is altogether more ambitious. There are some extremely thrashy riffs (see opener Overhang), eastern stylings and even some highly effective female vocals giving the whole thing an unusual twist. [7]
Incubus - Make Yourself [lp] Mature third album from these hipsters sees them purposefully ditching their Mr Bungle/Faith No More alike frenetic funk workouts in favour of a concentration on the songs themselves. It doesn't sound too promising, but they manage to pull it off with vocalist Brandon Boyd on fine form. He's got a new girl and boy is he going to sing songs about it. [8] [www] Enjoy Incubus
Raging Speedhorn [demo] Ferocious first taste of these nasty young men who look set to take over the UK metal scene. Ugly, vicious, fantastic. [9]
Abdullah - Snake Lore [demo] Excellent, twisted metal with an exotic, seventies feel. Imagine Black Sabbath with a dash of Cream and almost there. [8]
