Inger Lorre - Transcendental Medication
Goatsnake

This, the debut solo release from former Nymphs vocalist, Inger Lorre is a startlingly good album.

Overflowing with the sort of melancholy that only comes from the loss of loved ones (her father and Jeff Buckley, the latter appearing on Thief Without The Take) there is a sense of her dealing with tragedy through music. The song titles such as Beautiful Dead, It Could Happen To You and Sweet Release detail the theme of coping with bereavement and rising above it.

There is also a vein of spite running through the album and this is most evident on opening track She's Not Your Friend (possibly about Kurt and Courtney), in which she sings "I thought you swore you didn't have a goddamn gun...Did they make you run into the first pair of arms that you mistook for love and just maybe it even was but she's not your friend."

Henry Rollins has described the album as "vital, sometimes sad and ultimately beautiful music" and if it's good enough for Hank then it's good enough for you. (9)
