Charger - Fuzzbastard

Charger want to rip your head off. Actually that's probably untrue, but on the strength of this ridiculously evil EP they sound capable of it. Decapitations aside, Fuzzbastard is a monstrosity of a debut. Think Iron Monkey, think Eyehategod, think Electric Wizard, think about murdering your neighbours (ignore that last bit). Opening with the onslaught that is Megatron (could this be the start of a Transformers revival?) Charger immediately declare their malicious intent with a wave of guitars tuned as low as they come followed by brutal, scorching vocals. If track one is drawn out torture of the highest order, then track two, Immense Mammoth is like being run over by an articulated lorry. Boasting a swaggering riff that modern day Metallica would kill to have written, it's a lean, grooving number with plenty of energy. Extreme as the first two tracks are, it's on the final Brickshithouse, all fourteen plus minutes of it that Charger see fit to really show us what they're capable of. This is a towering, doom laden epic that spews murder in every direction. Its' measured pace and wilful aggression creating a tangible atmosphere of hatred that builds to the song's gigantically distorted final few moments, as you expect your speakers to leave home in protest. These fuzzbastards have certainly made their mark with this release. Sort of a gaping head wound. (9)
